History of Bonsai by Richard L. Owens

Rick Owens goes into great and detail of the History of Bonsai. and starts with an introduction to the Art of Bonsai, then in-depth discussions of Styles of Trees , Sizes, Pot Selection and Soils. Rick is retired now but has worked in manufacturing, engineering, and design, and is very well versed in 3d (CAD) modeling. Rick started making bonsai when he was sixteen years old after he attended a show at the Arnold Arboretum in Boston, Massachusetts. That was back in 1969 and he has been making bonsai ever since. The oldest tree in his current collection is 39 years of age, started from a cutting.

2023 Annual Bonsai Show & Sale

On Nov 4-5, 2023, we had our Annual Bonsai Show & Sale, complete with several Workshops, Vendor tables and Raffles. Although we had to compete for visitors’ time due to the Taste-Of-The-Town, and events at the Edison Winter Estates, we did fairly well in attendance. Our vendors did well, they say. Attached is a PDF with almost 70 slides of trees, people and activities.

Meeting, Saturday, November 18, 2023, 9-12

Attached is the Nov 2023 Newsletter. This Saturday we will discuss the recent Bonsai Show. Although the attendance was competing with the Taste Of The Town, and other scheduled Fort Myers activities, our exhibit was well attended and was full of many great trees. Our members went to a great effort to build another outstanding exhibit. Photos will soon be posted to this website. At this meeting we will discuss many topics, including the election of officers for 2024, future study groups, and a Member Survey.
